Giving Hope a Home in Boston

The AstraZeneca Hope Lodge Center in Boston, a program of the American Cancer Society, offers free lodging and a supportive community in a comfortable environment with accommodations for those undergoing treatment. The Hope Lodge is an oasis for cancer patients who travel to undergo treatment at the city’s premier medical institutions.

Patients and caregivers enjoy the beautiful library and media center, courtyards and quiet reading areas, as well as access to the American Cancer Society Community Resource Center and the full array of American Cancer Society programs and services, including free transportation to and from treatment.

In addition to providing free housing and transportation, the AstraZeneca Hope Lodge Center in Boston’s “home away from home” environment helps improve quality of life for those with cancer by encouraging guests to connect with, and learn from, one another. Volunteers, staff, patients, and families form a powerful support network while the Lodge’s nurturing, comfortable atmosphere allows guests to focus on what is most important – fighting cancer. Fully equipped kitchens and common dining areas allow guests to prepare their own meals, while sharing each other’s stories and boosting each other’s spirits. Community volunteers coordinate spaghetti suppers, barbecues, game nights, cookie decorating, and other activities.

Since opening in 2008, over 3,594 patients/guests served from 49 states and 7 countries have spent 101,436 nights at Hope Lodge Boston, saving an estimated $25 Million Dollars in lodging costs, averaging over $6,900 per guest.

We thank you for your continued generosity to the Hope Lodge and the patients we serve.

“Having someone who really understands what you’re going through, treatment wise, surgery wise, and recovery wise, makes a world of a difference.”

- Nicole Dunnington, Arlington, WA

“From the minute we walked in, we felt this sense of family. The atmosphere was so welcoming and positive. And not having to worry about hotel expenses is a saving grace. Cancer patients have enough to worry about as it is; it’s such a relief knowing the Lodge is there for you.”

- John Murr, FL

“I did not know that anything like the lodge existed. For me it meant the difference between hours of travel and exhaustion, replaced with convenience, comfort, friendly atmosphere, activities, hope and a very helpful staff, I wish to say thank you to all who have made this possible.

- Jon Choiniere, Exeter, RI
